BindingOriginal cream-and-black publisher-issued decorated boards survive. The front board has a torn corner and chipped edges; the rear board shows scattered foxing.
Edition EvidenceThe surviving cream decorated boards, and the illustrated undated title page, are diagnostic of the 1858 first edition.

John Teackle Montgomery is the strongly supported owner identification. A faint pastedown notation reported as possibly a name, ‘24 Jan 1950,’ and 19649 remains unconfirmed.
