DimensionsPresent dimensions reported as approximately 8½ × 7¼ inches. Staff believes the height was reduced during rebinding; the width may remain original.

Edition EvidenceThe photographed illuminated title page has no "SECOND EDITION" statement and matches the 1858 first-edition design, conclusively distinguishing this volume from the 1859 second edition.

Presentation / AssociationNo personal inscription, bookplate, or marginalia has been found. The title page bears an 1883 Library of the Bureau of Ethnology property stamp and a separate numeral "26" in different ink. The number "17760" is stamped on one maroon interior leaf. Smithsonian staff identified the numeral 26 as an inventory or accession number; the meaning of 17760 remains unresolved. A pencilled “1858X” appears in the photographed margin.
